Eduard EX228 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the F-105G Thunderchief model from Revell. • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX228
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: F-105G Thunderchief from Revell
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Republic F-105 Thunderchief:

The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was a single-seat fighter-bomber designed in the 1950s as a nuclear strike aircraft able to penetrate at low level and high speed. It was one of the largest single-engine combat aircraft of its era. Distinctive features were the swept-forward air intakes at the wing roots and an internal bomb bay. It was powered by a single afterburning turbojet.

The principal variant was the single-seat F-105D with radar allowing attack in all weather. The aircraft played a central role in the bombing campaign over North Vietnam, carrying a substantial bomb load. The two-seat F-105G, adapted for suppression of enemy air defences in the Wild Weasel role, carried anti-radiation missiles. Combat losses of the type were high owing to its intensive use in raids.
