Eduard EX573 mask set – canopy painting masks for the Sea Fury FB.11 model (Airfix) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX573 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Sea Fury FB.11 model from Airfix. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper, die-cut for the canopy and other glazing and for the wheel hubs
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX573
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Sea Fury FB.11 from Airfix
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Hawker Sea Fury:

The Hawker Sea Fury is a British single-seat carrier-borne piston-engined fighter, developed late in the Second World War as a lighter derivative of the Hawker Tempest. This all-metal low-wing monoplane entered Fleet Air Arm service in 1947, after the war had ended, and was among the last piston-engined fighters used operationally by the Royal Navy.

Powered by a Bristol Centaurus radial engine, the aircraft saw action in the Korean War, flying ground-attack and escort missions from carriers. Sea Fury pilots are credited with shooting down jet-powered MiG-15 fighters. The type was exported to Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Burma and Cuba, among others. Many examples remain airworthy today in civilian and air-racing configurations.

Original specifications (Hawker Sea Fury):

  • Length: 10.57 m
  • Wingspan: 11.69 m
  • Height: 4.84 m
  • Empty weight: 4191 kg
  • Maximum weight: 5670 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: 1 x Bristol Centaurus 18 radial, approx. 2480 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 740 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 10,900 m
  • Range: approx. 1130 km
  • Armament: 4 x 20 mm Hispano cannon, up to 900 kg of bombs and rockets
  • Production: from 1945, approx. 860 built
