RAM coating masks – subtle finish variation

This set contains masks for reproducing the layout of radar-absorbent material (RAM) panels characteristic of low-observable aircraft surfaces. The masks outline the fields that are painted in a slightly different shade, producing the subtle variation in skin finish seen on the real aircraft.

The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper. They are applied over a painted, cured model and the chosen shade is then airbrushed; once the paint has dried the masks are removed. The set is intended for airbrush painting.

About the aircraft – Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II (B and C):

The F-35 Lightning II is an American single-engine, single-seat fifth-generation multirole combat aircraft with reduced detectability. It was designed with internal weapons bays, extensive avionics and networked situational-awareness systems. It was created in three variants differing in basing method: the conventional A, the short take-off and vertical landing B version and the carrier-based C with enlarged wings.

The F-35B version, intended for the Marine Corps and amphibious carriers, is fitted with a lift fan and a swivelling nozzle enabling vertical landing. The F-35C version, adapted to conventional carriers, has a larger wing area and strengthened landing gear for catapult launches. The aircraft serves with the United States and numerous allies.
