Assembly

About the battleship Yamato

Yamato, the flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the largest battleship ever built, played an important role during the 1944 Philippine campaign. At Leyte Gulf, she formed part of the Center Force tasked with striking the U.S. invasion fleet. By this stage of the war, Yamato had received extensive upgrades, including greatly expanded anti-aircraft armament to counter overwhelming Allied air power. Although she survived the battle, it marked the beginning of the final chapter of her career, culminating in her loss during Operation Ten-Gō in 1945.
