About the Supermarine Spitfire PR Type A/B/E:

The Supermarine Spitfire, one of the most iconic WWII fighters, also served as a reconnaissance aircraft. The PR Type A, B and E versions from 1939–1940, operated by the "Cotton Club" unit, were adapted for photo-reconnaissance. De-armed and equipped with extra fuel tanks and cameras, they could perform long-range missions and provide vital intelligence on enemy movements. These early PR Spitfires played an essential role in the RAF’s intelligence-gathering at the outbreak of the war.
