About the “Miracle on the Marne”:

At the outbreak of World War I, Germany launched the Schlieffen Plan – a rapid advance through Belgium and northern France to encircle Paris. Initially successful, the offensive faltered as German forces lacked the manpower to complete the maneuver. Redirected eastward, they met concentrated Franco-British armies along the Marne River. The Allies, nearly twice as strong, exploited gaps in the overstretched German lines and launched a decisive counterattack. The Germans were forced to retreat, marking the collapse of the Schlieffen Plan and ending hopes of a quick German victory. This crucial Allied success became known as the “Miracle on the Marne”.
