Description

Model of an n-type 1st/2nd class passenger coach in the Maas-Wupper-Express colours (GfF)

A model of an n-type (Silberling) 1st/2nd class passenger coach in the colours of the Maas-Wupper-Express service, operated by the private operator GfF. The H0 model reproduces the Era VI condition.

It is a true-to-scale 1:87 reproduction of the prototype, with harmonious proportions, realistic bogies and careful painting and precise printing, giving a realistic appearance on the layout and good running characteristics.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: H0 (1:87)
  • Catalogue number: 23605
  • Manufacturer: PIKO
  • Vehicle: n-type passenger coach (Silberling), 1st/2nd class
  • Model length: 303 mm
  • Era: VI
  • Operation: private operator GfF (Maas-Wupper-Express)
  • Power system: direct current DC (two-rail)
  • Not factory-prepared for interior lighting
  • Coupler: NEM socket with close-coupling mechanism
  • Recommended age: 14 years and over

Note: this model is a hauled vehicle – a locomotive and a powered track are needed to run it.

The model has no drive or decoder of its own and is hauled by a locomotive. The model is not factory-prepared for interior lighting. It is produced in the DC version; for operation on a three-rail AC (Märklin) system the manufacturer offers replacement AC wheelsets no. 56060. The model is not a starter set and does not include track or a controller.

Model railways – digital or analogue control?

A digital DCC system lets you control several locomotives independently on the same track at a constant rail voltage, whereas in an analogue system all vehicles on a given circuit respond simultaneously to changes in the supply voltage. The model described here is a hauled vehicle – it has no drive or decoder of its own, so it runs equally well on digital (DCC) and analogue layouts. The model is produced in the DC (two-rail) version.

About the n-type coaches (Silberling):

The n-type passenger coaches (colloquially „Silberlinge”, „silverlings”, after their bare, unpainted aluminium cladding) shaped local and regional traffic in Germany for decades. After withdrawal from the state fleet, some of them passed to private operators, who ran them in various contemporary liveries.

The reproduced 1st/2nd class coach represents the Maas-Wupper-Express service operated by the private operator GfF in Era VI. The model faithfully reproduces the prototype in 1:87 scale, with realistic bogies and careful painting and printing.

Original technical data (n-type passenger coach):

  • Type: n-type passenger coach (Silberling), 1st/2nd class
  • Use: local and regional traffic
  • Operation: private operator GfF, Maas-Wupper-Express service
  • Era: VI
