Description

Four-axle chemical tank wagon model in RTI colours

A model of the four-axle chemical tank wagon in the colours of the Slovak RTI group, era VI, produced in TT scale. The glossy chrome barrel reproduces the polished surface of the prototype and makes the wagon stand out clearly in a freight formation.

The finish includes free-standing ladders and handrails together with sharp contour printing. The wagon is fitted with a TT close coupling, and careful wheelset construction ensures reliable running. It is a model that complements a contemporary tank train on a TT layout.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: TT (1:120)
  • Catalogue number: 47784
  • Manufacturer: PIKO
  • Model length: 137 mm
  • Era: VI
  • Coupling: TT close coupling
  • Minimum radius: 310 mm
  • Chrome-finished barrel
  • Free-standing ladders and handrails
  • The model is painted and ready to run
  • Recommended age: 14 years and over

Please note: this model is not a starter set — a locomotive and powered track are required.

The wagon model does not include track, a locomotive or a controller. To put it into service you need powered track and a locomotive — analogue or digital. The wagon itself has no drive or electronics, so it behaves the same way on analogue DC track as in a digitally controlled DCC layout.

Model railways – digital or analogue control?

The digital DCC control system allows several locomotives to run independently on the same track. Each vehicle receives individual commands while the rail voltage stays constant, which makes realistic operation possible and allows the lights and sound effects of every locomotive to be controlled separately. In an analogue system all vehicles on a given circuit are controlled at once by varying the supply voltage. PIKO model 47784 is an unpowered wagon without electronics, so it can be marshalled into trains hauled in either analogue or digital operation.

About chemical tank wagons and RTI:

The four-axle chemical tank wagon is one of the most recognisable vehicles in modern freight traffic. A polished or stainless barrel without insulation, free-standing ladders and a working platform on top of the tank, together with extensive valve fittings — all of it follows from the safety requirements for transferring industrial liquids.

RTI Railtrans International is a Slovak logistics and transport group founded in November 2011 and based in Bratislava. The company provides logistics and forwarding services, operates sidings, manages a wagon fleet and monitors shipments across several European markets. Its fleet includes tank wagons for petroleum products and aromatic hydrocarbons, open wagons, self-discharging wagons and locomotives.

Wagons in RTI colours belong to the group's rolling stock company. Zans series tanks are standard four-axle wagons for liquid products, without insulation or heating: Z denotes a tank wagon, a four axles, n a load limit above the series threshold and s clearance for 100 km/h.

Prototype data:

  • Keeper: RTI Railtrans International, Bratislava (Slovakia)
  • Axles: 4 (two bogies)
  • Type: tank wagon for liquid products, without insulation or heating
  • Typical top speed for wagons of this group: 100 km/h
  • Role: transport of chemicals and petroleum products
