About the BR 221 locomotive:

The BR 221 locomotives (formerly V200.1) were an improved development of the earlier V200 series and became one of the most iconic diesel locomotive types of post-war Germany. They were designed for hauling heavier passenger and freight trains on non-electrified routes.

These locomotives featured a distinctive twin-cab design with a central engine compartment and offered high power and operational flexibility. Widely used by Deutsche Bundesbahn during the 1960s and 1970s, they later found second lives with private operators. Today, they remain a recognizable symbol of German diesel traction.
