Eduard 11199 – Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 and Fw 190 D-9, 1:48 Dual Combo kit (Limited edition)

Eduard 11199 is a 1:48 model kit in Dual Combo form – it contains parts to build two complete German Focke-Wulf fighters: the Fw 190 A-8 and the Fw 190 D-9. It is a richly equipped Limited edition devoted to the units armed with these Fw 190 versions.

What's in the box:

  • Eduard plastic parts for two complete models (Fw 190 A-8 and Fw 190 D-9)
  • Pre-coloured photo-etched parts
  • Self-adhesive yellow paper painting masks
  • Brassin resin wheels
  • Decals for 11 marking options
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Product code: 11199
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Assembled length: Fw 190 A-8 approx. 187 mm, Fw 190 D-9 approx. 212 mm; wingspan approx. 219 mm
  • Marking options: 11
  • Edition: Limited (Dual Combo)
  • Difficulty: intermediate/advanced

Note: the set does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The set contains two complete models, so it is worth building each aircraft separately. We recommend attaching the pre-coloured photo-etched parts (including interior details and seat belts) with cyanoacrylate glue, while the included masks make painting the canopy framing and markings easier. The Brassin resin wheels should be cleaned and removed from their casting blocks before assembly.

We recommend applying the decals over a gloss coat, which limits the risk of decal silvering, and after drying sealing them with a matt or satin coat.

For painting we recommend the colours typical of late-war German fighter aviation; the instructions give detailed schemes for the 11 options. Aircraft are usually finished with a matt or satin coat.

Required tools:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper
  • Plastic cement (for the injection-moulded parts)
  • Cyanoacrylate glue (for photo-etched, resin and 3D-printed parts)
  • Precise modelling tweezers
  • Primer, brushes and modelling paints
  • Modelling wash to emphasise details

About the aircraft – Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 and D-9:

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190, nicknamed "Würger", is one of the two principal German fighters of the Second World War. The A-8 version, powered by the BMW 801 radial engine, was one of the most heavily produced members of the family and served as a fighter, ground-attack aircraft and bomber destroyer.

The Fw 190 D-9, known as the "Dora", was a version with an inline Junkers Jumo 213 engine and a lengthened fuselage. Thanks to its greater power and better performance at medium altitudes it offered better performance than earlier versions, although it only entered service late in the war, in 1944.

Specifications:

  • Fw 190 A-8 – length: approx. 8.95 m; wingspan: approx. 10.51 m; powerplant: BMW 801 D-2, approx. 1,700 hp; armament: two 13 mm machine guns and four 20 mm cannon
  • Fw 190 D-9 – length: approx. 10.19 m; wingspan: approx. 10.51 m; powerplant: Junkers Jumo 213A, approx. 1,750 hp; armament: two 13 mm machine guns and two 20 mm cannon
  • Crew: 1 (each aircraft)
