Tamiya 35293 is a set of five German infantry figures depicting a squad in action during the fighting in France in 1940. The soldiers are shown in dynamic combat poses, with attention to the details of uniforms and gear typical of the early-war Wehrmacht.

The set includes an officer with an MP40 submachine gun, riflemen and a machine-gun crew in the prone position. Thanks to alternative arms, some figures can be assembled in different poses, and using several sets allows an even wider range of arrangements.

Building the set:

Each figure is made up of several parts that fit together easily thanks to good engineering. It is worth test-fitting the alternative arms before gluing to match the poses to the planned scene. The individual parts, especially the faces and gear, are best painted before final assembly.

For painting 1940 Wehrmacht uniforms, a feldgrau base shade works well, complemented by leather, metal and detail tones. The uniform folds and small parts benefit from a wash and dry-brushing.

• Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
• Hobby knife or scalpel
• Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
• Polystyrene cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
• Figure brushes (fine sizes)

• A wash to emphasise uniform folds and detail

About the figures – German infantry 1940:

At the start of WWII, German infantry wore the M36 field uniform in feldgrau, with a characteristic dark-green collar, and the M35 helmet of recognisable shape. The standard weapons were bolt-action rifles and the MP40 submachine gun, with the squad's fire support provided by the MG34 machine gun.

The figures in this set depict soldiers from the campaign in the West in 1940. They pair perfectly with German vehicles of the period and with dioramas depicting the fighting in France, allowing a coherent, realistic scene to be built.
