About IJN Taihō:

IJN Taihō was a Japanese aircraft carrier commissioned in March 1944. It was the first Japanese carrier built with an armored flight deck, intended to improve survivability in combat. Taihō participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, where it was sunk after being hit by a torpedo that caused catastrophic fuel vapor explosions. Its loss highlighted the vulnerability of Japan’s carrier fleet in the later stages of the Pacific War.
