About USS Smith (DD-17):
USS Smith (DD-17) was a US Navy destroyer and the lead ship of the Smith class, the first generation of modern American destroyers. Launched in 1909, she served in World War I on convoy escort and patrol duties, including operations in European waters. Smith-class destroyers were recognizable for their four funnels and were armed with 3-inch (76 mm) guns and torpedo tubes. USS Smith was decommissioned in 1919.
