About USS Montana:

USS Montana was a planned US Navy battleship, designed during WWII as a follow-up to the Iowa class. The Montana class ships were intended to be larger, more heavily armored, and more powerfully armed, carrying twelve 16-inch (406 mm) guns in four triple turrets. However, changing naval doctrine and the growing dominance of aircraft carriers led to the cancellation of the program before construction began. The Montana remains a symbol of the ultimate American battleship that never came to be.
