The KPV (Krupnokaliberniy Pulemyot Vladimirova) 14.5 mm heavy machine gun was designed in 1949 in the Soviet Union. It was intended for use against light armored vehicles, low-flying aircraft, and ground targets. With armor-piercing ammunition, it could penetrate armored vehicles at ranges of several hundred meters. The weapon was widely adopted by the Soviet Army and exported to Warsaw Pact and allied countries.
