Description

Resin model of the Italian Autocannone da 100/17 self-propelled gun in 1:100 scale

Zebrano Z100-339 is a model of the Italian Autocannone da 100/17 self-propelled gun in 1:100 scale — a 100 mm howitzer mounted on a heavy truck chassis. This kit from the wargaming series reproduces an improvised Italian design of World War II.

The model is produced as a resin casting, typical of the Zebrano 1:100 series intended for wargaming and small dioramas. The kit does not include decals — the painting is left to the modeller.

What's in the box:

  • Resin parts for the vehicle and gun
  • Instructions / set card

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:100
  • Catalogue number: Z100-339
  • Manufacturer: Zebrano
  • Assembled length: approx. 72.5 mm
  • Difficulty level: beginner/intermediate

Note: This kit does not include glue, paint or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

This small resin model includes the truck and the gun mounted on it, giving a few more small parts. The parts are cut from the casting blocks, cleaned and washed before painting, and glued with cyanoacrylate.

Italian vehicles of the African front were usually painted in sand colours. Details are best emphasised with a wash, and the whole sealed with a matt varnish.

Required tools:

  • Razor saw or nippers to remove resin parts from the casting blocks
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sanding paper for working resin parts
  • Cyanoacrylate glue (for resin parts)
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • Modelling wash to emphasise details

About the vehicle – Autocannone da 100/17:

The Autocannone da 100/17 is an Italian self-propelled gun created by mounting a 100 mm howitzer on the chassis of the heavy Lancia 3Ro truck. The design was built in small numbers, mainly in field workshops in North Africa.

The vehicle provided mobile fire support and could engage armoured targets on occasion using shaped-charge ammunition. Most examples were lost by 1943.

Original specifications (Autocannone da 100/17):

  • Length: approx. 7.25 m
  • Armament: 100 mm howitzer
  • Chassis: Lancia 3Ro truck
  • Role: mobile fire support
  • Class: improvised self-propelled gun
  • Period: 1941–1943
