Painting masks for the model – faster, more accurate painting

This set contains self-adhesive masks shaped to the model, making it easier to paint selected areas – depending on the set these may be the road wheels, glazing or other details. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp, even edges without hand masking with tape.

The masks are applied to the model before spraying and removed once the paint has dried. The set speeds up painting and improves its precision.

About the vehicle – DRG Class 52 steam locomotive (Kriegslok):

The Class 52 was a German war locomotive (Kriegslokomotive) developed in 1942 as a heavily simplified version of the Class 50, adapted for mass production under wartime conditions. The parts count was cut, scarce materials were eliminated and manufacture was simplified, allowing rapid, cheap construction at many plants across occupied Europe. Its 1'E (2-10-0) wheel arrangement gave high tractive effort at low axle load.

The Class 52 mainly hauled heavy freight and supply trains on the Eastern Front and rear-area lines. More than 6,700 were built, making it one of the most numerous locomotive classes in history. After the war the engines remained in service across Central and Eastern Europe, some running into the 1980s.

Original specifications (DRG Class 52 steam locomotive (Kriegslok)):

  • Wheel arrangement: 1'E (2-10-0)
  • Length with tender: 22.975 m
  • Service weight (locomotive): 84 t
  • Driving wheel diameter: 1400 mm
  • Boiler pressure: 16 bar
  • Power: approx. 1620 hp (indicated)
  • Max. speed: 80 km/h
  • Track gauge: 1435 mm (standard)
  • Production: 1942-1950, over 6,700 units
