About the IJN Sakawa:

IJN Sakawa was the final completed Agano-class light cruiser, designed as a fast escort vessel for aircraft carrier and destroyer formations of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The ship entered service very late in the war and therefore saw little combat action. After Japan’s surrender, Sakawa was used to transport returning Japanese soldiers before being handed over to the United States. In 1946, the cruiser was used as a target ship during the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll. Sakawa remains one of the most recognizable late-war Japanese light cruisers.
