PIKO 52388 is a highly detailed H0 scale model of the SM41 diesel shunting locomotive operated by Polish State Railways during Era IV. The model is factory-fitted with a digital sound decoder, offering realistic engine and operational sound effects.

History of the SM41 locomotive

In the mid-1950s, Polish State Railways faced a shortage of powerful diesel locomotives for shunting duties. To address this, PKP adopted the proven Hungarian M44 design. After successful trials in 1957, the first locomotives entered service in 1958 and quickly became known for their reliability, strong tractive effort and ease of maintenance.

The SM41 locomotives operated at major railway hubs as well as regional freight yards and industrial facilities, becoming a defining feature of Polish railway operations during Era IV.
