Plastic Model Kit of the Chinese ZRY-100 Unmanned Combat Ground Vehicle in 1:35 Scale

Takom 2225 is a self-assembly plastic model kit representing one of the newest Chinese unmanned vehicle designs — the ZRY-100 Unmanned Combat Ground Vehicle (UCGV). The vehicle was publicly unveiled in late 2025 during a People’s Liberation Army parade. It forms part of a new generation of Chinese military doctrine in which autonomous platforms are intended to operate alongside crewed armored vehicles such as the Type 100 (ZTZ-100) main battle tank and the ZBD-100 infantry fighting vehicle.

Unlike earlier Chinese tracked unmanned platforms such as the ZRY-222, the ZRY-100 uses a wheeled configuration, making it faster and more flexible on paved terrain. The model reproduces the vehicle’s rotating turret equipped with an integrated optical targeting system and pivoting weapon armament.

Building the model:

The kit requires careful assembly — especially because of the movable elements (rotating turret, pivoting wheels, and weapons) as well as the small robotic quadrupeds, which are miniature sculpts requiring precise assembly and painting. It is recommended to paint the robotic subassemblies and the turret interior before final assembly, as some surfaces may become difficult to access afterward.

For painting the ZRY-100, modern Chinese military vehicle colors are recommended — popular choices include paints from the AK Real Colors, Mig Ammo, and Mr. Hobby Aqueous ranges in shades of gray and green digital camouflage patterns. The robotic quadrupeds may be finished in dark gray or black combat-machine tones. A matte varnish provides a realistic military and technological appearance. To emphasize optics, cable connections, and turret details, applying a modeling wash is recommended.
