Description

Model of a T3000e articulated double-pocket wagon in the livery of the Austrian Federal Railways (Rail Cargo Wagon)

A model of a six-axle articulated double-pocket wagon of class Sdggmrs 738 / T3000e, operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (Rail Cargo Wagon). This is a new release for 2026, with new running numbers, reproducing the Era VI condition. Wagons of this type are one of the cornerstones of modern rail–road combined transport.

The model’s body is made of die-cast metal and loaded with two 45-foot swap bodies in the new Rail Cargo Group livery. The model stands out for its faithfully reproduced articulation joint, openwork protective grille and openwork shunting step; the shunting handle can be set in the raised or folded position.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: H0 (1:87)
  • Catalogue number: 6600033
  • Manufacturer: Roco
  • Type: articulated double-pocket wagon, class Sdggmrs 738 / T3000e
  • Body construction: die-cast metal
  • Load: two 45' swap bodies in Rail Cargo Group livery
  • Model length: 393 mm
  • Era: VI
  • Operator: Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) / Rail Cargo Wagon
  • Power system: direct current DC (two-rail)
  • Coupler: NEM 362 standard with close-coupling kinematics
  • Shunting handle settable in the raised or folded position
  • Model ready to run
  • Recommended age: 14 years and over

Note: this model is a hauled wagon – a locomotive and a powered track are needed to run it.

The wagon is not a starter set and does not include track or a controller. It is hauled by a locomotive. Because of its considerable length and articulated construction, a layout with gentle curves is recommended. The model is produced in the DC version; for operation on a three-rail AC (Märklin) system the manufacturer offers replacement AC wheelsets cat. no. 40178.

Model railways – digital or analogue control?

A digital DCC system lets you control several locomotives independently on the same track at a constant rail voltage, whereas in an analogue system all vehicles on a given circuit respond simultaneously to changes in the supply voltage. The model described here is a hauled vehicle – it has no drive or decoder of its own, so it runs equally well on digitally (DCC) controlled and analogue layouts, since the control method applies only to the locomotive. The model is produced in the DC (two-rail) version.

About the T3000e pocket wagons:

The T3000e megatrailer pocket wagon is a further development of the earlier T2000 type. Its load area – a lowered pocket – is matched to the low-lying running gear of megatrailer semi-trailers, so that they fit within the railway loading gauge. The wagon also carries semi-trailers of older designs, swap bodies (up to 7.82 m long) and ISO containers.

The six-axle wagon, in its articulated form, consists of two coupled pocket sections, each of which can take one semi-trailer or a set of swap bodies or containers. Semi-trailers are secured by their kingpin in an adjustable support stand. T3000e wagons are produced under licence by the Slovak manufacturer Tatravagónka Poprad and rank among the most popular European combined-transport wagons; the examples reproduced in the model are operated by the Austrian Rail Cargo Group.

Original technical data (Sdggmrs 738 / T3000e):

  • Type: six-axle articulated double-pocket wagon
  • Purpose: transport of (crane-liftable) semi-trailers, swap bodies and ISO containers
  • Loads carried: megatrailer and older semi-trailers, swap bodies up to 7.82 m, ISO containers
  • Design origin: a development of the T2000 type
  • Manufacturer (licence production): Tatravagónka Poprad (Slovakia)
  • Operator of the prototype example: ÖBB / Rail Cargo Group (Rail Cargo Wagon)

About the manufacturer – Roco:

Roco is an Austrian model railway manufacturer that has been operating since 1960, founded in Salzburg and today based in Bergheim near Salzburg as part of the Modelleisenbahn GmbH group (alongside the Fleischmann brand). It released its first locomotives in 1976 and earned its reputation early on through precision and fidelity to the prototype. The brand introduced a number of innovations to the industry, among them unshortened, true-to-length coaches, track with a lower rail profile, and snag-free close couplers. Roco's contemporary H0 models stand out for their rich detail, while the digital range is rounded out by the Z21 control system. Roco models are valued by modellers and collectors throughout Europe.
