The Carro Armato P26/40 was Italy’s heaviest armored fighting vehicle of WWII. Development began in 1940, but due to delays and industrial shortcomings, production started only in 1943. After Italy’s surrender, existing vehicles were taken over by Germany and re-designated Panzerkampfwagen P40 737(i). With up to 60 mm of armor and a 75 mm main gun, the P26/40 posed a credible threat to Allied tanks, though it arrived too late to influence the war significantly.
