In Australian service, several specialized versions of the M113 were developed, including the LRV variant used by armored cavalry units for reconnaissance and patrol missions. About the M113A1 LRV

The M113 armored personnel carrier was developed in the United States during the late 1950s and entered service in the early 1960s. Its lightweight aluminum armor, high mobility, and simple design made it one of the most widely used armored vehicles in modern military history.

The Australian Army introduced the M113 in the 1960s and used it in various roles within mechanized and armored cavalry units. Several locally adapted variants were developed, including command vehicles, support vehicles, and reconnaissance versions such as the M113A1 LRV.

The LRV variant was used for reconnaissance, patrol, and support missions and served as an important vehicle for Australian armored reconnaissance units.

  • Engine: Detroit Diesel 6V53 diesel engine
