Description

Copper State Models Universal Tread Tires for the British Armoured Tender in 1:35 scale

Copper State Models A35060 is a 3D-printed set of tyres with a universal, non-directional tread pattern, sized to fit the Copper State Models British Armoured Tender kit in 1:35 scale. The set lets you replace the base-kit tyres with parts featuring sharper tread detail and fine technical lettering.

The non-directional (universal) tread was typical of early off-road tyres and performed well on varied surfaces. Tyres are a highly visible part of the vehicle, so a realistic rendering clearly raises the standard of the finished model.

3D-printed tyres - realistic tread and lettering

Injection-moulded tyres often have a simplified, shallow tread. 3D printing achieves a sharp, deep pattern and legible sidewall lettering. The parts are attached with cyanoacrylate glue; before painting it is worth gently cleaning the surface of any print-support marks. A matt rubber finish is recommended, optionally with light pigment soiling for the dusty look typical of desert conditions.

About the vehicle - the British Armoured Tender:

After the First World War the Royal Air Force maintained a strong presence in the Middle East through its Armoured Car Companies. The armoured tender was one of the key vehicles of these units, serving in Iraq and Kurdistan during the 1920s. The vehicles were built on modified truck chassis and armoured in-theatre.

The tenders carried out patrols, escorted convoys and protected remote outposts, operating in extreme heat and difficult desert terrain. They were valued for their mobility and reliability, and their service helped consolidate British influence in the region. The Middle East version in RAF service is the subject of the Copper State Models kit this accessory is designed for.

Original specifications (RAF armoured tender):

  • Type: armoured patrol vehicle
  • User: RAF Armoured Car Companies
  • Theatre: Iraq, Kurdistan
  • Service period: 1920s
  • Chassis: commercial truck chassis, armoured in-theatre
  • Roles: patrols, convoy escort, outpost protection
