Plastic model kit of the Ukrainian T-72AMT main battle tank in 1:35 scale

Amusing Hobby 35A067 represents the T-72AMT – a Ukrainian, deeply modernised version of the Soviet T-72A main battle tank. The modernisation, developed by the Ukrainian defence industry, increased the protection, firepower and sighting capabilities of this older 1980s design.

A characteristic feature of the vehicle is the Ukrainian "Nizh" explosive reactive armour and the protective cage armour fitted at the rear, intended to increase resistance to modern shaped-charge projectiles. The model is a release based on Amusing Hobby's T-72 tooling; it includes photo-etched parts and individual-link tracks.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with hull and turret components
  • Individual-link tracks
  • Photo-etched parts
  • Decal sheet
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: 35A067
  • Manufacturer: Amusing Hobby
  • Assembled length (with gun): approx. 272 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: This kit does not include cement, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Assembly:

The model combines plastic sprues with photo-etched parts and individual-link tracks. The tracks are assembled link by link, which makes it possible to faithfully reproduce their natural sag over the road wheels; it is worth being patient and using a sharp tool. Photo-etched parts are best attached with cyanoacrylate glue.

For painting, contemporary Ukrainian schemes are recommended – uniform protective colours or a multi-tone camouflage, depending on the chosen option. The detail and the reactive-armour blocks are worth emphasising with a wash, and the surfaces can be varied with shading and chipping. Detailed painting and marking suggestions are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Required tools:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Modelling knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue gate marks
  • Plastic cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
  • Cyanoacrylate glue for photo-etched and metal parts
  • Precise modelling tweezers
  • Brushes and an airbrush for painting larger surfaces
  • Modelling paints, washes and pigments for finishing

About the vehicle – T-72AMT (Ukraine):

The T-72AMT is a Ukrainian combat modernisation of the Soviet T-72A tank, developed by the Ukrainian defence industry to cost-effectively raise the combat value of machines held in storage. The programme drew on experience from the fighting in eastern Ukraine, and serial deliveries to the armed forces began around the turn of the previous decade.

The modernisation significantly increased the tank's capabilities in all key areas. Protection was strengthened by the extensive use of Ukrainian "Nizh" reactive armour and rear cage armour aimed at modern shaped-charge projectiles. The firepower of the 125 mm smoothbore gun was supplemented by the ability to fire Ukrainian laser-guided anti-tank missiles.

After the start of the full-scale war, some examples were produced in simplified "front-line" forms, in which harder-to-obtain components were replaced with available alternatives. The T-72AMT is today one of the more recognisable Ukrainian variants of the T-72 family.

Original vehicle specifications (T-72AMT):

  • Length (with gun): approx. 9.5 m
  • Width: approx. 3.6 m (with reactive armour)
  • Height: approx. 2.2 m
  • Combat weight: approx. 47 t
  • Crew: 3
  • Main armament: 125 mm smoothbore gun (able to fire guided anti-tank missiles)
  • Powerplant: V-84-1 diesel engine of approx. 840 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 60 km/h
  • Protection: "Nizh" reactive armour and cage armour
