1:35 scale plastic model kit of the American G7117 1.5t 4x4 maintenance shop truck with trailer

MiniArt 35498 is an assembly kit depicting the G7117 1.5t 4x4 maintenance shop truck with a trailer. The vehicle belongs to the American Chevrolet G506 family – a series of closed-cab 1.5-ton trucks produced in large numbers during WWII and supplied to the Allies, among others under Lend-Lease. The G7117 variant was distinguished by a front winch, and the workshop version served as a mobile field repair and servicing point.

This is an elaborate kit offering a full workshop interior with equipment, a reproduced engine and a complete chassis and suspension. Some details are supplied as photo-etched parts; the instructions also offer a choice of certain components (such as the radiator grille or bumper) in plastic or photo-etch. A trailer is included as well, expanding the options for arranging a scene.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic parts for the truck and trailer
  • Full workshop interior with equipment
  • Reproduced engine and a complete chassis and suspension
  • Front winch
  • A choice of plastic or photo-etched versions for some parts
  • Photo-etched parts
  • Clear parts (windows, lights)
  • Decal sheet for several marking options
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: 35498
  • Manufacturer: MiniArt
  • Assembled length of the truck alone: approx. 155 mm
  • Skill level: intermediate/advanced (full interior, engine, photo-etched parts)

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

This is an elaborate model for modellers with some experience. It is worth painting and finishing the workshop interior and engine before closing up the body, as access to them will later be limited. The tarpaulin is carefully reproduced – careful preparation and painting give an effective result. Modelling tweezers and cyanoacrylate glue are useful for the photo-etched parts. Matt Olive Drab is typical for U.S. Army vehicles of the period; details and recesses can be emphasised with a wash, and dust and mud achieved with pigments.

Tools you will need:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for smoothing sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement and cyanoacrylate glue for the photo-etched parts
  • Precision modelling tweezers
  • Brushes of various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash and pigments for dust and mud effects

About the vehicle – Chevrolet G7117 (G506 family):

The Chevrolet trucks of the G506 family were American 1.5-ton 4x4 vehicles produced in enormous numbers during WWII. Versatile and reliable, they were used by the U.S. Army and – through Lend-Lease deliveries – by many Allies, including the Soviet Union. The G7117 variant was distinguished by a front winch, which made it easier to self-recover from difficult terrain and assist with auxiliary work.

The workshop version served as a mobile servicing and repair point, carrying the tools and equipment needed to keep machinery ready for use. Such vehicles were an inseparable part of the technical rear of motorised and armoured units, which makes them a rewarding subject for service and logistics dioramas.

Original vehicle specifications (Chevrolet G506, 1.5t 4x4 family):

  • Type: 1.5-ton 4x4 truck
  • Family: Chevrolet G506
  • Distinguishing feature of the G7117: front winch
  • Engine: six-cylinder inline Chevrolet petrol engine
  • Role of this version: mobile field workshop
  • Production and service period: Second World War
  • Users: U.S. Army and Allies (including Lend-Lease deliveries)
