Description

Plastic model kit of the Czechoslovak Avia S-99 / C-10 fighter in 1:72 scale – Limited Edition

Eduard 2157 is a limited edition model of the Avia S-99 / C-10 — the post-war Czechoslovak designation for the Bf 109G-10 produced by Avia at its factory in Čakovice near Prague. After the end of World War II, Czechoslovakia took over the complete Bf 109G production lines along with stocks of engines and components, which enabled the completion and operation these aircraft under the domestic designation S-99 (factory designation C.10). The aircraft served in the Czechoslovak Air Force immediately after the war, before being replaced by more modern types.

The kit is based on Eduard’s Bf 109G series molds, supplemented with parts specific to the S-99 version. Pre-painted photo-etched parts and painting masks significantly simplify assembly. Four marking options document the aircraft serving in Czechoslovak air units.

The kit includes:

  • Eduard plastic sprues with fuselage, wing, and equipment parts
  • Transparent sprues with cockpit canopy
  • Pre-painted photo-etched parts (pre-painted PE)
  • Paint masks (cockpit, wheels)
  • A sheet of water-slide decals for 4 marking variants
  • Illustrated assembly instructions with color diagrams

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:72
  • Catalog number: 2157
  • Manufacturer: Eduard (Czech Republic)
  • Model length after assembly: approx. 124 mm
  • Model wingspan: approx. 138 mm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints, or modeling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Model construction:

The kit is intended for modelers with intermediate experience. The pre-painted photo-etched parts are ready to be glued directly from the sheet—this eliminates the need to mask and paint small parts. Painting masks allow for precise reproduction of panel lines and cabin interiors without the risk of smudging the windows.

Avia S-99s were initially painted in schemes modeled after post-war Luftwaffe designs—gray/greenish RLM camouflage or solid aluminum-silver, with Czechoslovak checkerboard markings and numbers. The instructions include detailed color plans for 4 documented aircraft.

Essential tools:

  • Model-making nippers
  • Model-making knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper
  • Plastic glue
  • Cyanoacrylate (CA) for photo-etched parts
  • Brushes of various sizes
  • Model paints
  • Clear varnish for decals
  • Model wash

About the aircraft – Avia S-99 / C-10:

The Avia S-99 (factory designation C-10) is the postwar Czechoslovak designation for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 fighter produced by the Avia factory in Czechoslovakia. Under wartime contracts, the Avia plant in Čakovice was obligated to produce Bf 109Gs for the Luftwaffe; after the end of hostilities in May 1945, it had finished fuselages, wings, and a stock of DB 605 engines. Approximately 21 S-99s (the G-10 variant with a DB 605 engine), which entered service with the Czechoslovak Air Force as escort and training fighters.

Stocks of DB 605 engines were quickly depleted, forcing designers to develop the S-199 variant—equipped with the Jumo 211F engine from the Heinkel He 111. The S-199 became famous primarily for its role in the Israeli War of Independence (1948), where Israeli S-199s (“Messer”) formed the backbone of the newly formed Israeli Air Force. The S-99, however, was a shorter-lived variant—operated exclusively in Czechoslovakia as an interim model before the advent of modern jet fighters.
