The Tamiya 35322 kit represents the M1 Super Sherman, an Israeli modernization of the famous American M4 Sherman tank. After World War II many countries continued to use the Sherman platform, but improvements were needed to keep it effective on the modern battlefield.

Israel developed several upgraded versions of the Sherman, incorporating new turrets, improved equipment, and more powerful weapons. The M1 Super Sherman was one of these upgrades and was equipped with a 105 mm gun that significantly increased its firepower.

About the M1 Super Sherman

Following the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the Israeli Defense Forces acquired a number of M4 Sherman tanks from various sources. Over time these vehicles were upgraded to improve their combat effectiveness.

The M1 Super Sherman was one of the upgraded variants and featured a more powerful 105 mm gun and several other modifications. These improvements allowed the tank to remain competitive on the battlefield during the 1960s.

Super Shermans were used by the Israeli Defense Forces in several Middle Eastern conflicts and became an important part of Israel’s armored forces during the early decades of the country’s history.
