Description

Plastic model kit of the IJN Battleship Mutsu in 1:350 scale

The Hasegawa 40122 kit represents the Japanese battleship IJN Mutsu, a sister ship of the famous Nagato and one of the most powerful capital ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. As part of the Nagato class, Mutsu was among the first battleships in the world to be armed with 410 mm main guns, marking a significant step in naval warfare development.

In the box you will find:

  • plastic parts to build the IJN Mutsu battleship
  • accurately detailed hull and superstructure
  • main and secondary armament typical of the Nagato class
  • deck equipment and fittings
  • decals for ship markings
  • clear, illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:350
  • Model length: approx. 64.3 cm
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints, or modeling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Due to its size and level of detail, a step-by-step assembly approach is recommended, along with regular dry fitting. The model offers excellent potential for careful painting and additional detailing, especially around the superstructure and armament.

Essential tools:

  • Hobby knife or sprue cutters
  • Files and sandpaper
  • Brushes
  • Plastic cement
  • Paint set suitable for IJN warships from the interwar period and early World War II
  • Optional: cyanoacrylate glue

About the IJN Mutsu:

Commissioned in 1921, IJN Mutsu served as one of the most prestigious ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Although she did not take part in major naval engagements during World War II, her presence carried significant strategic and symbolic value. In 1943, Mutsu was lost after a catastrophic internal explosion while anchored at Hashirajima, making her one of the most tragic losses in Japanese naval history.

About Hasegawa:

Hasegawa is a highly regarded Japanese model manufacturer, known for precise tooling, good fit, and a wide range of aircraft, ship, and military vehicle kits. Their ship models are appreciated as solid foundations for building accurate and impressive scale warships.
