Description

Eduard JX326 mask set – canopy painting masks for the B5N2 Kate model (Border Model) in 1:35 scale

Eduard JX326 is a set of self-adhesive 1:35 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the B5N2 Kate model from Border Model. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper in the TFace version – separate masks for the exterior and interior of the glazing, plus wheel hub masks
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: JX326
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: B5N2 Kate from Border Model
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks (TFace version)
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Nakajima B5N Kate:

The Nakajima B5N (Allied reporting name Kate) is a Japanese carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Second World War. It was an all-metal low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and a crew of three, powered by a single radial engine. For the early 1940s it was a modern aircraft, superior to its Allied counterparts at the outbreak of the Pacific War.

The B5N formed the backbone of Japanese torpedo aviation and took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the major carrier battles, contributing to the sinking of several American ships. It carried an aerial torpedo or bombs slung under the fuselage. In time, faced with the growing superiority of enemy fighters, the aircraft became obsolete and was relegated to secondary duties. More than 1,100 examples were built.

Original specifications (Nakajima B5N Kate):

  • Crew: 3
  • Length: 10.3 m
  • Wingspan: 15.5 m
  • Height: 3.7 m
  • Empty/take-off weight: 2,280 kg / 4,100 kg
  • Powerplant: 1 x Nakajima Sakae 11 radial, approx. 1,000 hp
  • Max speed: approx. 380 km/h
  • Ceiling: 8,300 m
  • Range: approx. 1,990 km
  • Armament: 1 x 7.7 mm machine gun (defensive); 1 x 800 kg torpedo or up to 800 kg of bombs
  • Production: over 1,100 (1937-1943)
