Road wheel masks – even edges on the rubber tyres

This set contains self-adhesive masks shaped to the model road wheels, letting you paint the rubber tyres separately from the hubs. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving a sharp, even boundary between the metal hub and the rubber without freehand painting.

The masks are applied to the wheels, the tyre or hub colour is airbrushed, and the masks are removed once dry. The set greatly speeds up one of the more tedious steps in painting a vehicle.

About the vehicle – M36 Jackson (Gun Motor Carriage M36):

The M36 was an American tank destroyer developed in 1943-1944 in response to heavily armoured German vehicles. It combined a new open-topped turret carrying a 90 mm M3 gun with the M10A1 hull, itself based on the M4A3 Sherman. The 90 mm gun could defeat the Panther and Tiger at normal combat ranges, a capability the earlier 76 mm guns lacked.

The vehicle entered service in autumn 1944 and fought across Western Europe, including the Ardennes. About 1,400 were built in several variants, among them the M36B1 on an M4A3 hull and the M36B2. After the war the M36 served in Korea and was exported to numerous armies, remaining in use for decades.

Original specifications (M36 Jackson (Gun Motor Carriage M36)):

  • Length: 7.47 m (gun forward)
  • Width: 3.05 m
  • Height: 2.72 m
  • Combat weight: 28 t
  • Crew: 5
  • Armament: 90 mm M3 gun, 12.7 mm machine gun
  • Armour: up to 76 mm (gun mantlet)
  • Engine: Ford GAA V8 petrol, 450 hp
  • Max. speed: 42 km/h
  • Range: 240 km
  • Production: 1944-1945
