Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Airspeed AS.51 Horsa:

The Airspeed AS.51 Horsa was a British assault glider of the Second World War, designed to carry infantry and light equipment. It was a cantilever high-wing aircraft of wooden construction, with a capacious fuselage and tricycle landing gear. It was towed to the target behind an aircraft such as a bomber, then landed on prepared or improvised ground. It entered service from 1942. Large control surfaces and flaps eased a steep, short approach to landing.

The glider typically carried about 25 to 28 troops, or a load such as a jeep or gun, loaded through the hinged nose or the cargo doors. Horsas were used in the landings on Sicily, in Normandy and in Operation Market Garden and at Arnhem. About 3,600 were produced between 1941 and 1945, largely by subcontracted works outside the main factory. After landing, the fuselage could be separated behind the wings to unload equipment more quickly.

Original specifications (Airspeed AS.51 Horsa):

  • Length: 20.43 m
  • Wingspan: 26.83 m
  • Height: 6.05 m
  • Empty weight: 3800 kg
  • Takeoff weight: 7000 kg
  • Crew: 2 (pilots)
  • Payload: approx. 3150 kg (25–28 troops or a jeep or gun)
  • Towing speed: approx. 160 km/h
  • Max speed: 240 km/h
  • Production: 1941–1945 (approx. 3,600 built)
