1:35 scale plastic figure set of German infantry (Ardennes Offensive)

MiniArt 53064 is a figure set for self-assembly and painting, depicting German infantry in winter clothing. The four figures are posed dynamically, with weapons and field equipment, making them suitable for scenes from the Ardennes Offensive at the turn of 1944 and 1945 – one of the harshest winter campaigns on the Western Front.

The winter clothing and dynamic poses mean the figures work well with dioramas set in snowy surroundings. They make a valuable complement to vehicles and scenes from the final period of the war, adding scale and a human dimension.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic parts for 4 figures
  • Weapons and field equipment
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Catalogue number: 53064
  • Manufacturer: MiniArt
  • Number of figures: 4
  • Skill level: intermediate (figure painting)

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The figures are intended for self-assembly and painting.

Building the model:

Assembling the figures is straightforward, and the key to the effect lies in the painting. Winter scenes offer plenty of scope – it is worth showing the contrast between dark clothing and lighter winter elements, along with traces of damp and cold. We recommend brush painting with highlights and shadows; details can be emphasised with a wash, and fabric texture achieved with dry-brushing. Dedicated pastes and pigments are useful for reproducing snow on boots and equipment.

Tools you will need:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for smoothing sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes of various sizes (including fine ones for facial details)
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash, plus pastes and pigments for snow effects

About the set – the Ardennes Offensive:

The Ardennes Offensive, launched in December 1944, was the last major German offensive operation on the Western Front. The fighting took place in exceptionally difficult conditions – frost, snow and fog – which left their mark on the appearance and equipment of the soldiers. The winter clothing and distinctive setting make this a rewarding subject for modellers building dioramas.

Figures in winter dress allow you to build atmospheric, demanding scenes in which the texture of snow, the cold palette and the soldiers' fatigue play an important role. They combine well with vehicles and scenic elements of the period.
